Brighton 10k Run – Sunday 7th April 2024
Great news! We have a great team of runners again this year for this fantastic fundraising opportunity! You can make a difference too – we really do appreciate the support you give.
The very best of luck to everyone who has been training hard and is planning to run this year!!
Who are we?
The Friends of Downs View School has been established since 1992 and as a Charity supports Downs View School. The committee consists of Parents, Carers, Staff and Friends and is run entirely on a voluntary basis.
The Aims are to fund raise for extra or specialist equipment, provide social activities for the students and their families, instigate fund raising activities and other events, i.e. training for the Parents/Carers and Pupils of the school. Money raised is invested in the school for the benefit of the students. We assist with the provision of educational facilities which are not funded by the Local Education Authority. We also liaise and develop partnerships with local companies, charities and community groups to benefit the pupils at the School.
What we have achieved so far
From our Fund raising efforts we have been able to purchase a variety of items for the school including: new mini buses, new play area, specialist equipment, a Backlit interactive whiteboard, PECS playground communication boards, bike shed, bikes, assistance with school holidays, tandem bikes, equipment for a common room and furnish a gym for the 16 – 19 year olds. We also fund Discos, Fun Days and a leavers Prom for the pupils and their families.
Most recently fundraising meant we could provide the following in 2022-2023:
Renewal of the Drusillas pass
Funding for the Garden Project at the Link College
An adapted trike, much needed at the Link College
Half the funds for the new playground at school, plus a wheelchair swing
