Downs View is a special school and link college, operating from two purpose built sites in Brighton, for pupils aged 4 to 19 years of age, who have severe learning difficulties. Some pupils have additional disabilities such as autism, hearing and/or visual impairment, physical disabilities, life limiting conditions and challenging behaviour.
The school and link college prepare young people for life out of school. This includes having positive expectations of pupils and having respect for all, providing good social role models for pupils, constantly looking for ways to celebrate achievement, and to enjoy and have fun in school.
The pupils also participated in trips and outings outside of school, enabling them to be part of the community. There are strong links with several other schools in the area which enable the pupils to participate in inclusive activities. The School and Link College work very hard to provide as many learning opportunities for the children as possible and need all the help they can to provide the specialist equipment to meet their complex needs.
